Journalism is ever-changing. So far, journalism is in the form of broadcast, print and online. Significantly more people are using the web as a quick and easy way to receive the latest information. It takes mili-seconds to find out the latest news, sports information and gossip on celebrities over the world wide web, including social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, who hold 80 million account holders, and this number is increasing vastly every minute.
The invention of the internet and citizen journalism allows people to know the news fastly and cheaply. I believe that this may have encouraged 24 hour TV news, which you could argue is competing with online journalism to give the public what they demand, which is instant news.
News online is fast and cheap. Also, news online allows selection. People can choose what news story they want to read or search for. In newspapers, the editor decides what the reader can read - what stories come first, which are the most important etc. Online, people can select which stories they want to read and when - they are in control!
I beleive the future of journalism is online!

It is interesting that you place a link between Facebook, Twitter and similar sites and the invention of 24 hour TV news due to the demands they share.
ReplyDeleteYou also reciognise that news online is cheap, do you think it always will be?
I do agree with you certainly to an extent that the future of journalism is online. If you wish to know m,y views on the matter, feel free to do so! (http://ellensmith3.blogspot.com/2010/03/is-there-future-in-journalism.html#comments)

Dear Ellen,
ReplyDeleteThankyou for your comment.
To answer your question on if i think news online will always be cheap..NO! i beleieve newspaper sites will cost as much if not slightly more than they do on paper form. Money makes the world go round...and so does news...therefore they both go hand in hand...
